On November 17, 2005, an environmental exhibition titled "Seeds of Change: The Earth Charter and Human Potential," which highlights the Earth Charter as a "map" pointing the way toward sustainable living, opened at the Dubai Knowledge Village in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The exhibition depicts the need for sustainable development and introduces the Earth Charter's positive vision, along with individuals' efforts to solve local environmental problems such as deforestation and water shortage.
SGI hosted the event, supported by Dubai's governmental organizations, such as Dubai Aid and Humanitarian City (DAHC). Some 300 attended the opening, including DAHC Chief Executive Officer Barbara Castek and UNICEF's Deputy Executive Director Rima Salah as well as local dignitaries.
In a video message, Dr. Abdullah Al Karam, chief executive officer of the Dubai Knowledge Village, a government run educational center, expressed his hopes that the exhibition's theme would empower visitors to take on humanity's modern day challenges, such as war and poverty. SGI President Daisaku Ikeda also sent a congratulatory message. The show runs through November 30 and is scheduled to tour Dubai Women's College and Zayed University.
